I think this video is incredibly beautiful.

Ryan and I recently hosted a Ugly Holiday Sweater Party at our apartment and it WAS AWESOME! We transformed our bookshelf and an entire corner of the room into a winter themed photo booth filled with holiday props (and a couple of bananas) to spice up the photos. The sweaters were glorious and the company was splendid. Thanks to all who attended!

Day One

Hello, hello!

I’m breathing a sigh of relief (*siiiiiiiigh* Did you hear that!?) that I am actually posting this tonight. For some months, the idea of starting a blog has been in the back of my mind but it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I started researching blogging sites to begin to make it a reality. Finally it is here and we’ll see if anyone reads it. : ]

Blogging seems important to me at this point in my life for a number of reasons. I haven’t had a “creative” outlet for quite a while. Writing has always been something I’m fairly good at but haven’t ever done on a regular basis (other than writing papers in college. Woo hoo.). Honing my skills while having some fun seems like a perfect combo.

There is that saying about doing one thing each day that scares you. Speaking up in public spaces and sharing my own opinion terrifies me. Give me a script or some talking points and I’ll be good to go, but force me to speak in front of people about a subject that is of my own choosing and I’ll just about pass out. I think keeping a blog will be a useful exercise to move my thoughts and opinions out of my head. It will push me out of my comfort zone which is healthy…in my opinion.

Finally, there is so much going on in my life and around the world how can I NOT share that with people! The point of this blog is to share with readers the beauty I see in the world, either through nature itself or the kindness of us humans who inhabit it. I will also point out the many, MANY areas where, in my humble opinion, there is significant room for improvement.

Please feel free to comment and engage with the content of the blog. I chose the Walt Whitman quote to set the stage for the space because I believe he is calling us to live fully in every moment. Find ways to enjoy life, make life better for another person, and appreciate and protect the world in which we live. I hope that as I write I will discover new ways to live in harmony with the world and I hope that I can help you discover new ways or ideas with which to engage as well.
